Tree & Shrub Planting
Trees & Shrubs
Planted to Last.
Professional tree and shrub installation for commercial and residential properties. Privacy hedges, specimen trees, landscape bed plantings, and large-scale commercial installs across the Twin Cities metro.
The Right Plant in the Right Place
Trees and shrubs are the structural backbone of any landscape. Planted correctly, they add year-round value, provide privacy and screening, define property boundaries, and significantly increase curb appeal. Planted incorrectly or with the wrong species for the site, they fail, create maintenance problems, or end up being removed within a few years. At Ristau Property Maintenance, we bring the knowledge and technique that turns a planting investment into a long-term asset.
We work across the Twin Cities metro on projects that range from a single specimen tree on a residential property to large-scale commercial installations involving dozens of trees and hundreds of shrubs. We source quality balled-and-burlapped and container stock from regional nurseries and select varieties proven to perform in Minnesota's hardiness zone.
Tree Planting
Correct tree planting begins with species selection appropriate for the site: available space at maturity, soil conditions, sun and moisture requirements, and winter hardiness. We dig to the correct depth, plant at the proper root flare height, backfill with appropriate soil, and stake only when necessary and with materials that do not damage the trunk. A tree planted at the right depth with adequate post-planting water will establish quickly. One planted too deep rarely recovers.
Shrub Installation
Shrub installation transforms the transition zones of a property: foundation plantings, landscape bed borders, and entryway features all benefit from the right shrub selection and professional installation. We select species for mature size, seasonal interest, and maintenance requirements, and install with correct spacing to allow for natural growth without overcrowding.
Privacy Hedges
Privacy screen installations are among the most impactful improvements we make to residential and commercial properties. We assess the desired screening height, available growing width, sun and soil conditions, and recommend appropriate species. Arborvitae, columnar spruce, and select evergreen shrubs are commonly used for privacy in the Twin Cities area. We space plantings correctly from the start so the screen fills in uniformly and the investment matures the way clients expect.
Landscape Bed Plantings
Trees and shrubs anchor landscape bed designs for both commercial and residential properties. We install mixed plantings of ornamental trees, flowering shrubs, evergreens, and perennials as part of comprehensive landscape bed installations. Each plant is selected for compatibility with its neighbors, seasonal interest across the year, and long-term maintenance requirements appropriate to the property.
Planting Questions
What types of trees and shrubs do you plant?
We plant deciduous and evergreen trees, ornamental trees, privacy shrubs, flowering shrubs, and hedgerows. Variety selection is driven by your site conditions: sun exposure, soil type, available space, hardiness zone, and your goals. We source balled-and-burlapped and container specimens from regional nurseries and can advise on the right species for Minnesota's climate.
Can you install a privacy hedge or screen planting?
Yes. Privacy hedge installation is one of the most common tree and shrub requests we receive. We assess the desired screening height, available growing space, and sun conditions, then recommend and install appropriate species. Arborvitae, spruce, and certain shrub varieties are commonly used for Twin Cities privacy plantings. We space plants correctly for mature spread so the hedge fills in properly over time.
Do you plant trees for commercial properties?
Commercial tree and shrub planting is a core part of our work. We install trees and shrubs for office parks, HOA communities, retail properties, and multi-tenant buildings throughout the Twin Cities metro. Commercial planting projects often involve multiple specimens installed efficiently on a schedule that minimizes disruption to property operations.
How do you ensure trees survive after planting?
Survival starts with correct installation technique: proper hole depth and width, correct planting depth for the root flare, backfill with appropriate soil, and proper staking only when necessary and for the correct duration. We also guide clients on watering requirements in the first season, which is the most critical period for establishment. We source quality nursery stock from regional suppliers.
Can you remove existing shrubs before replanting?
Yes. We handle site clearing, stump grinding, and debris removal as part of a replanting project. If the existing plantings are overgrown, diseased, or no longer appropriate for the site, removal and full replanting with the right species is often the most cost-effective path forward.
Do you warranty your plantings?
Talk to us about warranty options when you request your quote. Warranty terms depend on plant species, site conditions, client watering compliance, and installation timing. We stand behind our work and our plant sourcing.
